SENSORS AND MICROSYSTEMS FOR PHYSICAL QUANTITIES MEASUREMENTS

The use of Micro Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) as sensors and actuators is very promising especially for measuring physical quantities with micro and nano magnitudes due to their small size and excellent resolution.
Therefore, among different physical quantities, my present work is being focused on the development of techniques and conditioning circuits for capacitive MEMS force sensors, leading to a system characterized by an electrically tunable sensitivity and a sub-nanonewton resolution, making it suitable for biological force probing. A metrological characterization of the equipment used for testing has been lead, with a focus on specific instrumentation for inclinometers and accelerometers.
