The major research activity is to extend the existing palette of tools in biosensing by designing, realizing and testing prototype dielectric sensors with enhanced nonlinear optical properties to detect chemical and biological species at ultra-low concentrations.
The research area is the one related to field localization with dielectric nanostructures, where the interaction of light with the species to be detected is boosted by the local field enhancements associated to the resonances of the structures, which can be tuned by properly designing the shape and material of the individual nanoparticles. A novel type of optical nanoantennas made of all-dielectric elements is suggested.
