The Mediterranean basin is identified as a primary 'hotspot' for climate change, facing increasing frequency of droughts and the degradation of coastal aquifers due to saltwater intrusion. Traditional hydrological management relies on static models that often struggle to adapt to the non-linear, dynamic nature of modern climate stressors. This research proposes the development of advanced Deep Learning frameworks designed to enhance water resource management in these water-stressed coastal regions. By integrating multi-source data, ranging from remote sensing to in-situ sensor networks and meteorological records, this work aims to create robust predictive models for factors such groundwater salinity, soil moisture dynamics, and water availability and demand. Furthermore, the project will explore the transition from predictive monitoring to prescriptive control, utilizing AI-driven optimization to recommend sustainable irrigation schedules.
