MEMS devices combine mechanical and electronic components on a miniaturized platform, offering reliable performance and broad applicability in sectors such as automotive, consumer electronics, and medicine. Their functionality can be further expanded by integrating nonstandard materials into silicon and exploiting alternative transduction mechanisms, including the piezoelectric effect. This development has enabled piezoelectric MEMS, or piezoMEMS, for sensing, actuation, and energy harvesting. Among them, acoustic-wave piezoMEMS are particularly promising because they use acoustic waves for sensing, actuation, and signal processing. My research focuses on analysing, and optimizing piezoelectric MEMS transducers and their associated electronic conditioning circuits for improved overall system performance.

Short Bio
Stefano Bertelli was born in 1996 in Iseo, Italy. In March 2023 he achieved a master’s degree in electronic engineering at the University of Brescia, Italy, with a thesis titled “development of an acoustic wave piezoelectric MEMS pressure sensor”. After the graduation he carried out a research fellowship from June 2023 to November 2023 on acoustic-wave piezoelectric MEMS sensors at the University of Brescia. He is currently working, as a PhD student, within the Sensors, Microsystems and Electronics research group at DII.
