|ROBUST 3D SCANNING AND REAL-TIME RECONSTRUCTION AND REGISTRATION TECHINQUES FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS
My research activity is focused on the 3D registration in real-time. Typically, in order to acquire a 3D volume is necessary to take multiple views scans of the object of interest. Nowadays it is possible to do it also and in a real-time fashion: a full scan can be made in a single shot, by moving the scanner (handheld) around. The 3D registration task consists in the localization of the last acquired set of points with respect to the rest of the world, in order to align all the sets and to produce the final 3D representation (point cloud, mesh, etc). The real-time constraint is particuraly challenging, with many sub-problems related that requires new solutions to improve the robustness, precision and velocity of the process.

After getting a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering at University of Brescia in 2015, I decided to do a shift, moved by the curiosity about the world of Data Processing. Indeed I started a master in Communication Technologies and Multimedia, which I completed in 2018.
During such experience, I had the opportuinity to meet very interesting people, to share knwoledge with them and to discover the pleasure of doing research and learning new incredible stuff. At the beginning of 2018 I started my work of master’s thesis at a company specialized in 3D scanning. I have never really been into this world but I found it immediately exciting and I enjoyed my experience with the working team. Then, I decided to start a PhD in collaboration with the same company and the University of Brescia and I have been working on it since the end of 2018.
