DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF SENSING DEVICES FOR THE DETECTION OF CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL CONTAMINANTS FOR ENVIRONMENT, HUMANS’ HEALTH AND SAFETY

My research activity has been focused on the development of sensors suitable for the identification of chlorinated compounds in the waters. The first part of the work was done preparing metal oxide sensors with nanowire morphology and functionalizing the surface of nanowires with inorganic catalysts. At the same time samples made by a mixtures of distilled water and trichloroethylene were been prepared and then tested using the electronic nose (equipped with not optimized sensors) in order to study the optimal measurement protocol for the future. In addition to this research I tested the food matrices by the electronic nose for the determination of bacterial contamination.
